Extensive Training Like the Pros

Collegiate athlete training is an extensive approach to training that is designed to help student-athletes perform at their best both on and off the field. Whether you're a freshman just starting out or a senior looking to take your performance to the next level, collegiate athlete training can help you achieve your goals.

  • Strength training is a crucial part of any collegiate athlete’s training program. By building muscle mass and increasing overall strength, athletes can improve their performance and reduce the risk of injury. Strength training exercises should be focused on major muscle groups and should include exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, and overhead press. It is important to PSP and our performance coaches to develop a program that is tailored to an athlete’s specific needs and goals.

  • Speed, agility, and endurance training are crucial components of any successful training program for collegiate athletes. Speed training helps athletes improve their overall speed and quickness, which is essential for success in many sports. Examples of speed training linear speed in the forms of top end running, acceleration and lateral movement. Agility training, on the other hand, works more change of direction, reaction, and coordination. Agility drills can include cone drills, hurdle drills, and ladder drills. Finally, endurance training is essential for maintaining peak performance over long periods of time as well as increasing recovery rates. By incorporating these types of training into their workouts, collegiate athletes can improve their overall physical fitness and perform at their best both on and off the field.

  • We at PSP stress mobility and recovery to all our athletes. Prior to every workout athletes perform 5 minutes of mobility making sure their joints are moving through the full range of motion that they were intended to. This can help prevent many injuries. On top of mobility prior to the workout we give our athletes tactics and strategies to learn how to recover fully so they can perform and train at their highest capabilities.

  • Another important aspect of PSP's collegiate athlete training program is nutrition. Proper nutrition is essential for fueling the body and supporting optimal performance. Athletes need to consume enough calories to fuel their workouts and maintain their energy levels throughout the day. A balanced diet that includes plenty of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates can help athletes perform at their best. Having a nutritionist on hand we help athletes through nutrition seminars and fact sheets.

  • Mental training is also a key component of collegiate athlete training. Mental skills such as goal-setting, visualization, and positive self-talk can help athletes stay focused and motivated, even in the face of challenges and setbacks. PSP offers mental performance once a week in a presentation and open discussion forum.

PSP's collegiate athlete training may also include sport-specific skills training, while talking to each athlete individually to make sure they are meeting their sport goals and school goals while trying to reach their highest potential. This is done through proper sport specified programming, tracking of workouts, mobility, recovery, and nutrition. Playing at the highest level, we understand and believe in the importance of a well-rounded training approach.
